All our Ale Weston pieces are made to be worn everyday and with proper jewelry care and cleaning, they will continue to shine for years to come. Even though we only carry 14k solid gold & gold filled jewelry, this article mentions other types of gold jewelry too, to achieve a broader knowledge for all of our readers.
14K Solid Gold
14k solid gold lasts a lifetime. It won’t tarnish and it's of low maintenance. To clean your 14k solid gold jewelry once in a while simply fill up a bowl with warm water and a small amount of mild soap. Leave your jewelry to soak for 10 minutes. Then rinse and let it dry.
To clean your diamond jewelry use a soft toothbrush with mild soap and very gently scrub the metal and diamonds. Then rinse and let it dry.
To preserve the jewelry at its best, preferably let it be the last thing you put on when getting dressed (after applying perfumes, lotions etc.) and the first thing you take off. Finally, before going to bed its best to keep the jewelry laid flat or on a fabric surface to avoid scratching. For best storage we recommend using your Ale Weston pouch (which comes free with your order) or a jewelry box.
Gold Filled
Our 14k/18k gold filled jewelry is extremely durable. It is water resistant but we recommend you should generally avoid any chemicals (perfumes, hairsprays, lotions, sunscreen, cleaning and beauty products etc) chlorine and saunas. These chemicals can react with the metal in the jewelry and cause it to lose its luster and even tarnish more rapidly. Naturally, everyday wear factors ( e.g. dirt, dust, even the level of ph. of your skin and natural body chemicals) can affect and accumulate on the pieces. If you notice your jewelry appearing dull, just clean your pieces in the following way to restore their shine.
To clean your gold filled jewelry simply fill up a bowl with warm water and a small amount of mild soap. Leave your jewelry to soak for 5 minutes. Then rinse and gently pad dry your piece with a soft cloth (microfiber cloth if possible) and lay it flat to dry. If necessary (every few months) you can also use a polishing cloth to help restore its original shine. For best storage we recommend using your Ale Weston pouch (which comes free with your order), a simple ziplock bag or a jewelry box.
14k Gold Vermeil & Plated
In order to preserve your jewelry’s plating, our recommendation is to keep it dry and avoid wearing it while swimming, showering, or exercising. Keep it away from any chemicals (perfumes, hairsprays, lotions, sunscreen, cleaning and beauty products etc.) chlorine and saunas.
Do not use a polishing cloth to clean your gold plated jewelry, it will rub off the plating. To deep clean gold vermeil or gold plated jewelry (every month) fill up a bowl with warm water and a small amount of mild soap. Leave your jewelry to soak for 5 minutes. Then rinse and gently pad dry your piece with a soft cloth (microfiber cloth if possible) and lay it flat to dry. This type of jewelry is best to be stored in a place that avoids moisture & oxygen in the air. We recommend using your Ale Weston pouch (which comes free with your order) or a jewelry box. As a tip, a ziplock bag is a great way to store it too.
Enamel
We recommend not to wear your enamel in the shower or while swimming. Chemicals in bath products, shampoos and perfumes
can weaken and soften enamel, damaging its color and surface.
